Q1

Accountability

Taking ownership of our actions, decisions, and results. Accountability is the foundation of trust and the starting point for growth.

“Holding oneself accountable can be challenging, even for those who are self-motivated. I’ve found that consistent small steps often make the biggest impact. One of my goals for this quarter was to read three leadership books to expand my knowledge and better develop my team. In Q1, I read the following:

- Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg
- My Career is My Responsibility by Meredith Jones
- You're Not Listening: What You're Missing and Why It Matters by Kate Murphy

These books have shaped how I listen both professionally and personally. They have made me more inquisitive and driven me to ask hard questions about my career, my life goals, and how I can contribute to the growth of others.

My focus this month was communication—specifically holding myself accountable to listening to understand others' perspectives rather than just internalizing my own response. Reading these books helped me sharpen the skills necessary to listen with understanding, compassion, and natural curiosity. While I am still far from a perfect listener, I plan to continue reading at least one book per month to build the skill sets that make me a better leader and a better human”

“For my professional development "pillar" this quarter, I focused on gaining a deeper understanding of our resolution processes. My objective was to learn the specific functions of each team, identify their key metrics for success, and understand the challenges they navigate daily.

To support this, Jordan coordinated weekly one-hour sessions for me with each team. These sit-downs allowed me to observe their workflows firsthand and gain a comprehensive view of how different departments contribute to our overall mission.

This experience has been invaluable. I now have a much clearer understanding of our internal operations, which has significantly boosted my confidence when speaking with clients. Specifically, it has enhanced my ability to handle de-escalations by providing clients with more accurate information and realistic expectations regarding their accounts.”

“The Pillars program really hit home for me this quarter, especially after Chuck's speech. What he said about personal accountability stuck with me. Basically, you can't build trust or hold other people accountable unless you first hold yourself to the same standards. That's a huge takeaway.

My main goal for Quarter 1 was to get a better handle on my mental health. I'm the kind of person who always wants to help, but that's turned into a bad habit of taking on too much. I mean well, but the huge downside is that I'm often running on empty. I kept putting off my own needs or, even worse, just straight-up ignoring them.

When the quarter started, I was totally burned out, both at work and in my personal life. It crushed my mental well-being and killed my motivation. Eventually, the exhaustion started affecting my physical health, too. I lost control of my diabetes, and my A1C was 7.3 at the beginning of the period.

I had a two-part goal: I needed to stop putting off therapy and actually go to my scheduled appointments, and I needed to set aside more time just for myself instead of always putting everyone else's needs first. Setting boundaries was tough at first, especially saying "no" to friends. I felt super guilty, but it got much easier once I realized my friends weren't mad at me for prioritizing myself.

On top of the boundaries, I started dedicating two hours a day just to personal time. I used the time to exercise, cook healthier meals, or take my dog for walks and playtime. Sometimes, it was just carving out time to finally finish the book I started back in November. I made it to every single one of my therapy appointments, even when I had to push myself to go. The results are awesome: as of three weeks ago, my A1C dropped to 6.4 which is a prediabetic range. My diabetes is officially stable and under control now. I'm honestly surprised by how much consistently putting my own needs first has positively affected my relationships with everyone else, including my clients in many cases.”

“The Pillars program encourages me to set specific goals to grow at Wesley. The Pillars program has improved my success by giving me structure, accountability and support. I am more confident in my ability to follow through with goals.”

“The Pillars Program has really encouraged me to take responsibility for my role and my place here at Wesley. How can I grow? What do I see wish to see in my personal life AND my work life? I have been very encouraged by the way my managers & overseers have encouraged my goals and have assisted in helping me chase after them. I would highly recommend!”
